Beating Winter

IMG_8499 copyAs lovely as winter can be, it’s not exactly the kindest weather on our skin. I usually go dry during cold seasons but not this year thanks to two miraculous products that I couldn’t not share with you. Aesop Rejuvenate Intensive Body Balm & Aesop Geranium Leaf Body Scrub

IMG_8426 copy Aesop Rejuvenate Intensive Body Balm:

If you suffer from dryness occasionally or all the time then worry no more, because this body balm will leave your skin hydrated with a healthy glow. It has a light texture to it and sinks into skin right away. My least favorite part about it, is the scent, although now it’s kind of growing on me but I have to be honest you might not like how it smells at first but that’s just a compromise I’m willing to make to get skin as soft as silk.

Untitled-1Aesop Geranium Leaf Body Scrub:

Another product that’s not scented deliciously but works miraculously is Aesop body scrub, this too helps in leaving your skin silky and beautiful since it gets rid of all the flakiness and dryness. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had a scrub that worked better than this one. Again the scent isn’t the greatest but I’d rather use something that really works than get something that is overly fragranced and would do more damage than good.

IMG_7452 Amidst the noise and crowds, the shops and carts all I needed was an inhale of a tranquil oasis, somewhere where I could lose myself in the beauty of what God has created. The closest place that fitted my cravings was St. James Park, so this is where mt feet carried me..
An early spring has waved into London this year and every park is ornamented with beautiful-odoriferous blossoms that were falling off their branches discoloring the ground as if a shower of pink snow had fallen. I honestly cannot describe how beautiful the park is because of them and how joyful it is to look at them!

IMG_7425 copy IMG_7419 copyIMG_7442 copyamna1 Spring season doesn’t only mean the end of cold but it also means the end of dark-s. Dark coats, caps and boots. We can finally pop in some color..
I think pastels are absolutely magnificent for spring, not too bright but light enough.

Tea in London

ammyyz_tea in london

Before talking afternoon tea, I wanted to tell you about the places you shouldn’t miss when you’re up for tea and something sweet. I’d highly recommend Aubaine and Cocomaya. Both are two of my all time favorites.

I haven’t experienced Connaught hotel & The Claridge’s afternoon tea yet but I’ve been there for lunch and desserts I would rate them both as very average which kept me hesitant about going there again for the afternoon tea.

Now to what mostly London is famous for… While I was searching for the best places for afternoon tea I came across the history of it and how it all started so I thought I’d share it with you. Apparently the ritual of afternoon tea owes its origins to Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford. In the 1800s she was only allowed to eat two main meals a day. Breakfast in the early morning and dinner late in the evening (I don’t think I would’ve survived in that era). Weakened and irritated by hunger pangs each day, she decided to schedule time to take tea and snack each afternoon. Fortunately this ritual converted to a global tradition.

Places I’ve been to:

Sketch – The Parlour : In terms of the quality of food I’d rate sketch as number 1. Everything is absolutely delicious starting of sandwiches to desserts to scones. Also they have a lovely collection of tea and other drinks. The atmosphere and place are quite lovely. Out of all the places Sketch is the one I keep visiting and craving the most.
The Wolseley: In terms of location and place it’s wonderful I’d recommend it for breakfast more than I would for afternoon tea. Not because their afternoon tea is poor but breakfast is definitely more tasty!
The Ritz – The Palm Court:  If you haven’t been there before, what are you waiting for? Check out my sister’s post if you’re interested in seeing more.
Fountain and Mason – The Fountain Restaurant: Delicious food! Especially their egg Florence was one of the best. However their sweets range is very very limited and the service is just TERRIBLE! People are rude and kinda racist! But I’ve been there years ago so that might of changed!
The Berkeley – Prêt-à-Portea: I absolutely love The Berkeley! Very cozy, comfortable and quiet. Their Prêt-à-Portea afternoon tea is very fashionable and unique. However it isn’t  very tasty! It’s the kind of afternoon tea that you enjoy more by looking at it rather than by biting it. So I never went back for the afternoon tea but I keep going for some coffee and desserts.
Sanderson Hotel Mad Hatter’s Tea: I had an absolute blast at the Sanderson hotel. Their afternoon tea is indeed creative and unique. I was wowed every second of my time there. But again the food as for the Berkeley not very tasty it’s to be enjoyed when looked at.

I’ve been to sketch recently and I had my camera so I thought why not take pictures and write a blog post?

Friday Morning Routine

IMG_7143 copy IMG_7151 copy IMG_7203 IMG_7208 copy IMG_7211 copy IMG_7226IMG_7240 IMG_7241 Untitled-1new1errornew5errornew2error I just love my Fridays more than any other day of the week and even with the good life of the unemployed I still appreciate Friday and try to make it extra special!
First I’ll start my morning with a shower using my favorite products: Flake away scrub and Clean on me shower gel by Soap and Glory . I LOVE those two combinations despite the many many scrubs I’ve tried flake away remains my favorite and I keep on repurchasing it over and over again.
I follow by washing my hair with Bumble & Bumble Thickening shampoo which is the best shampoo I have ever purchased. I cannot describe how good this shampoo is and how much it has helped my hair stay on my scalp rather than on the floor. When I first got it I wasn’t so sure about it, I didn’t like the smell it was too boring for me. But after using it for a while I started noticing a real difference and my hair stopped falling out! So I made my entire family convert to that shampoo. This is my third re-purchase of it! I’ve used different shampoos in between but I keep coming back to this one.

After I’m done I like to light on a candle. My current favorite is Rosamundi by Diptyque & Spray my current favorite perfume Peony and Blush Suede by Jo Malone.

I’ve been using The Righteous Butter by Soap & Glory. I love how it sinks into the skin right away so it speeds up the process of getting ready, it does moisturizer and it’s well scented  but it isn’t my favorite body butter and I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing it again. Another item that I got my hand on from soap & glory is the Heels genius which is just a big disappointment I absolutely hate this product, I hate the scent and I see no results in what it supposed to do. I usually apply any body lotion or butter on my feet and put on socks afterwards and vola after few hours my feet would be as soft as velvet so when I saw this the other day at boots I thought why not give it a try! So far hating it, but I’ll keep on using it cuz I usually don’t like products when I first get them( You probably know that by now).

Finishing up with my skincare products, I usually moisturizer in the morning using Kanebo Sensai Silk Emulsion (Light) and then apply my absolute favorite sunscreen Eau Thermale Avène spf 50+ if I’m going out during daytime this step is an absolute must! I used to think that sunscreen isn’t an important step but I was WRONG, now it’s essential. My makeup application varies depending on where I’m going but two thing I will always apply are Dior Lip glow and Dior Addict Lip Maximizer. And if I need my makeup to stay in place till nighttime I apply Beauty Flash Balm by Clarins which basically works as a primer I read somewhere that it isn’t suitable for daily use so I keep it for special occasions or long days.

Don’t forget to Read Alkhaf before you head out. I like to listen to my favorite reader while getting ready Click Here.

Have a blessed Friday  xx

Night Skincare Routine

IMG_4230I’ve been asked to share my skincare routine a couple of times but I did not want to post about it until I was 100% sure that those products are worthy of mentioning.

Before I start telling you about the products I use, I want you to keep in mind that those products might work well for me but not for you. Each one of us has a different skin type and each skin has different needs. When my obsession began with youtube beauty videos my skin was in a pretty good condition until I decided to believe in the products that were mentioned by beauty gurus. Which was the biggest mistake I’ve ever done. You have to keep in mind that youtubers, bloggers, etc.. make money out of advertising certain products so even if those products weren’t as good they will still be recommended by them to you!

By believing in their recommendations, my skin started acting up and started to get really irritated, I broke out A-LOT. It took me a while to realize that you don’t need ton of products to keep your skin healthy and beautiful. Magazines, celebs, bloggers, youtubers, etc.. will tell you that you need bizlion and trillion of products because this is how they make a living! BUT you really really don’t! All you need is a decent cleanser and everything else is just a treat. Click Here to see the products that have ruined my skin.

My skin type: Oily to Combination

1 MAINMy night skincare Routine:
1- Kanebo Sensai Silky Purifying Gentle Makeup Remover for Eyes and Lips
2- Kanebo Sensai Silky Purifying Cleansing Milk
3 – Kanebo Sensai Silky Purifying mud Soap *
4 – Estee Lauder Adanced Night Repair *
5 – Kanebo Sensai Silk Emulsion (Light)
6 – Dr Sebagh’s For Your Eyes Only Puffy Eye Cream
7- Dr Jackson’s 04 Coconut Melt
8 – Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish

Items marked with * are essential to me and are the reason my skin got better. Evey thing else isn’t as important.

Step 1:

IMG_4225 copy

If I have makeup on I start by removing my eye makeup using Kanebo Sensai Silky Purifying Gentle Makeup Remover for Eyes and Lips. It does the job perfectly but it’s just as good as the L’oreal remover for waterproof eye makeup (You have to make sure it’s the waterproof, the regular one burns the eyes and does not do the job). Unfortunately since they’ve changed the packaging I can no longer find it in Qatar. So I converted to Kanebo.

Then I will start removing the rest of my makeup by using Kanebo Sensai Silky Purifying Cleansing Milk which is a lovely product that doesn’t break me out or harm my skin in anyway. But it does not remove the makeup quite well so I have to follow with Kanebo Sensai Silky Purifying mud Soap which is just the best product in the whole wide world. Whenever I’m using this product my skin will be in a good condition. I believe it helps with preventing breakouts and it does a fantastic job of keeping the oil in my face balanced without drying my skin.

I only do this once a day at night. Cleansing my face twice with the mud soap would be too much for my skin and if I don’t have makeup on I would skip using it as well.

Step 2:

IMG_4250 copyAnother fantastic product is Estee Lauder Adanced Night Repair this is the only product that I came across that was REALLY worth every good review and the hype. After I cleanse my face I apply few drops of it and in the morning my skin would be brighter, smoother, hydrated and more radiant. This product really excels with its results. I only apply it once a week and if my skin was tired I fulfill its thirst by using it 3 times a week but that’s a maximum amount of use per week.

I’ve been recently given a sample of Kanebo Sensai Silk Emulsion (Light) which is basically a light moisturizer for oily to combination skin that hydrates without being overly thick. I’ve used it for two weeks now and so far so good it is the kind of moisturizer I’ve always wanted to have. I use it in the morning more then I do at night however when I feel that my skin is overly dried because of the cold weather I apply it after the Advanced Night Repair serum. I believe in less is more so I use a very small amount of the product.

By now you could really see that I hate applying too many products on my skin on daily basis and I believe the reason my skin has been  good to me is because I was good to it, by not adding too many chemicals on my face that would just irritate it. However when it is thirsty for moisture, applying a serum or a moisturizer is a must!

Step 3:

IMG_4260 copyI sometimes get puffy eyes in the morning and in order to prevent that I apply Dr Sebagh’s For Your Eyes Only Puffy Eye Cream before I go to bed. I do this step very very rarely(Maybe once a month if I’m really cynical about having puffy eyes) because I believe the undereye area is super sensitive and you shouldn’t over use products on this area! Even the touch of your finger is too much and could cause darkness! ( I know a lot of people might disagree but I’ve noticed that the people who suffer from undereye darkness are the ones who use tons of products underneath their eyes to prevent what their fingertips is causing)

I ordered Dr Jackson’s 04 Coconut Melt because I was in need for a moisturizer but when I opened up the package it wasn’t what I expected it to be! I don’t really know how someone can use it as a face moisturizer so I just ended up using it as a lip balm and it does the job pretty well! But I’d pick Crème de Rose over it with a blink of an eye! If I ever get my hands on it before it gets sold out!

IMG_4270Lastly, I’d like to talk to you about exfoliation. I only exfoliate when I feel that my skin needs it, that is when I get dry patches or dead skin cells that dis-smooth my foundation when I apply it. Therefore exfoliation is the soulation to get rid of any of those unwanted problems to result with an even and toned skin that is prepped for makeup. I’ve been using Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish recently and once again with exfoliaters, I don’t know how I feel about it. I’ve used different exfoliaters before such as Origins modern friction and Liz Earl gentle face exfoliater. Out of the three I think Liz Earl’s is the least harsh and most gentle. It does get fast results so I like to use it when I have a special occasion and I want to look radiant right away. However it can only help in the short run, the next day I’d wake up and all the problems I’ve had would have returned as well, with the other two exfoliaters my skin would last weeks without any dead cells, etc..

I exfoliate when my skin needs it, so this could either be once a week or once every two weeks. Exfoliation could be really harsh on the skin and I don’t know how some people do it on daily basis! And be careful not to exfoliate where you have a breakout or a pimple this could lead the breakout to spread all over your face.

Most of the days I would only cleanse my face and go straight to bed. This step is definitely a must & Stay tuned for my Morning Skincare Routine xo.
